White-tailed Deer in the Snow – Connecticut

We live in a house next to the woods so there is a lot of wildlife in our backyard. Beside the birds, we enjoy watching the chipmunks and the rabbits during the summer and we also saw bobcats a few times in our backyard, however, the squirrels and the deer are the most frequent visitors. We counted five squirrels and five white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) so far in our backyard. The deer usually show up twice a day, first in the morning when they go back to their resting place, then in the evening they walk through our backyard again while on their route to find food somewhere. Last time when I was out in my hide photographing birds in the snow, the deer came by again and I had the opportunity to take some photos of them too. I mostly took close portrait shots because I used my 500mm lens for bird photography and the deer didn’t fit in the view of the large telephoto lens.

Fortunately, one of them was a little further away and I was able to take a photo showing the whole beauty of her. All images were taken with my Canon EOS 5Ds and my Canon 500mm f/4 lens.
