Leaving Hawaii for Texas

After spending four and a half year in Hawaii, my wife, Gabi and I are very excited to announce that we are moving to Texas this weekend. Life in Hawaii has its ups and downs just like any other place on Earth. For me as a biologist and nature photographer, the most crucial drawback of Hawaii is the very degraded ecosystems of these islands. It’s very sad to see how altered nature is on this archipelago. Hawaii is called the extinction capital of the world and I’m really admiring the scientists and conservationists who work hard to try saving the remnant native species of the islands.

Fortunately, North America still has a very rich flora and fauna as well as beautiful landscapes that will provide a better environment for my work. Beyond the natural beauties, we are looking forward to this move for hundreds of reasons, such as Gabi’s new job as a staff scientist at BCM, the diverse culture of Texas, the great food and of course the fact that there is less time difference between our new home and Hungary. 🙂

To say goodbye to Hawaii, we visited Kaena Point last weekend which is definitely my favorite place on this island. We encountered a Hawaiian monk seal, two juvenile Laysan albatrosses and saw a beautiful sunset. It was a perfect farewell.
